Lower back pain, a condition treated by Dr. Kraus, a Houston back pain doctor, is extremely common. 80% of the population will experience lower back pain. One in seven new patient visits to a doctor are related to lower back pain. It is second only to the flu as being responsible for absence from work.
The Kraus Back and Neck Institute provides surgical and non-surgical spine care to patients in Houston and the surrounding regions including The Woodlands, Pearland, Galleria, Spring, Katy, Memorial City, Humble, Kingwood, Baytown, Port Arthur, Beaumont, Texas Medical Center (TMC), Tomball, Sealy, Sugar Land, Conroe, Galveston, Pasadena, Missouri City, Friendswood, Lake Jackson, Rosenberg, La Porte, League City, Deer Park, Texas City, and Stafford.
Back and leg pain often have causes which either improve on their own or which the surgeon can correct (such as pressure on the nerve roots). Sometimes there is no easily correctable cause of the pain. Scar tissue around the nerve or chronic inflammation of the nerves such as arachnoiditis may cause leg and back pain.
A Lumbar Discectomy Surgery or Microdiscectomy is a procedure to remove pressure on a nerve in the low back caused by a herniated disc*. A small amount of bone in the back is removed to allow the surgeon access to the nerve. The nerve is then gently pushed aside and the disc pushing into the nerve is removed.

Do not recommend at all. Specifically based on the office staff. I have had to call up there numerous times and every time, none of the administrators seem to know what's going on and they never provide the documentation I need. It's extremely frustrating and the medical advise isn't worth the hassle of dealing with the office staff. Go somewhere else.

My dad had a small back procedure back in 2012. He went in totally coherent and came out with dementia. He died 6 weeks later. All Dr. Kraus said was his surgery was perfect. Didn't think to care that my Dad was 83 years old and anesthesia was not appropriate for him. If you are elderly stay away.

Don't go to this doctor It is a waste of money After long wait He just make cursory check. But he does not diagnose the problem. Does not even write a report Then he recommend all kind of test but since he does not file proper form The insurance company reject the request

I have gone to several neurologists over the last decade and all they wanted was to give me drugs or offer physical therapy. So, I decided to give Dr Kraus' office a try. It took a weeks to get in but he quickly ordered an MRI. It took more to go back to go over the results. Not wanting a fusion of C2 to C7 just yet I chose facet injections. It took weeks for the first appt for the block to even see if it would work.

And after a decade I was finally pain free! But, alas it's been a month and no appt for the ablation. I call and they tell me it takes a while. I call again and no return call. I'm so sad and in pain and his office just doesn't care.

His staff is wonderful and very helpful. They are very polite and always have a smile on their faces. Dr. Kraus was very personable and I am glad I found him. I was very uncomfortable and scared when I made an appointment with another surgeon so, I decided to get a second opinion and Dr. Kraus and Dr. Oishi made feel at ease and I am having surgery in 2 weeks and I am not at all apprehensive about it. They have put all of my concerns at ease.

He triple books patients, leaving evening waiting for hours. I waited for over three hours in the waiting room and another 30 minutes in an exam room. He or his office staff will not tell you up front, but he no longer performs surgeries or procedures.
