Unlike conventional medicine, which focuses on attempting to treat disease once it occurs, ChiroAid emphasizes improving your health in an effort to reduce the risk of pain and illness in the first place. We understand that arriving at a doctors office for the first time can be nerve racking. Filling out paperwork, learning new faces and names, and getting to know your way around the office can be an overwhelming experience. That's why at ChiroAid our aim is to remove any stress or causing unnecessary tension and to make you feel comfortable.
Chiropractic care is like building a house - certain things have to happen in a particular order in order for everything to stand strong and work correctly. When building a house, if you tried to put up your walls before you had a solid foundation, your walls would be weak and eventually collapse. If you tried to put on your roof before the walls were ready, you would run into the same problem. The same is true for your body. Dr. Alterman is an amazing chiropractor. She always helps in the most relaxing ways! Whenever my neck, or back, or anything hurts, she'll help me out and fix my bones! Dr. Marina (that's how we call her) treated, and still treats, my whole family. My partner came to her with the back totally screwed. My partner was able to walk sorta sideways only. Marina put my partner back into upright position and the complains about painful back disappeared (a course of treatments was needed, of course). My younger kid first came to Marina 3 years ago, with her back very much messed up after a fall on a skateboard which happened a few months prior.
Since then, we are coming to Marina once a week or every other week - because Marina supports the health of my younger child's whole body, making adjustments to her back, legs and arms - my daughter is a high level gymnast with impacts on her body happening all the time. My middle daughter also benefits from Marina's help every so often - she is an athlete too, and only Marina can put her body back in shape after severe impact falls.
I myself visit Marina about once a month for back adjustments - after lifting something heavy at home, or just to feel better overall. When your body hurts, and the posture or fall or something else of that nature might be the reason, Marina has a unique ability to figure out the source of the problem and work on it. She explains all the connections and signaling happening in the body. Say, my little one cannot point her right toe in her gymnastics endeavors, but can point the left one. Marina works on her and explains that her tailbone got rotated and misaligned again, and that the result is a series of tight muscles in right leg, all the way down to her ankle, and this tightness is what prevents the kid from pointing her toe.
So Marina adjusts the tailbone and massages away the tightness in the leg muscles. And the kid is able to point her toe. Marina worked on both me and my partner when each of us got into separate car accidents. After working on me after my car accident, Marina was able to tell me how I sat in the car when I was hit by another car - from observing how my back became misaligned. Surely, Marina fixed everything, and I am as good as new now.
And so is may partner. If you want your body to be fixed right, and not just hear fancy talk and get "customer service" - come to Marina. She will take care of your body, explain what's going on, and you will come out of there being more healthy. Keep coming - and you will STAY more healthy. Having plenty of other chiropractors closer to home, we commute 45 minutes on the beltway from Virginia - to come to Marina. And we are doing it for 3 years straight. We got Chiroaid recommended to us by one of my mother's coworkers! I and my whole family have been seeing Dr. Alterman for over three months now. DR. Alterman truly cares about her patients. She takes the time to help you discover what the long-term cause of your pain is, instead of simply treating the symptoms. Dr. Alterman is a unique and gifted healer. She goes beyond the typical doctor's methods of focusing on one obvious problem, instead gathering from various sources to give you a comprehensive treatment. I first went to Chiroaid in 2011 after suffering from mysterious pains in my lower back. Within the first 30 minutes of analysis, Dr. Alterman narrowed down the origins to a scoliosis, past trauma, and a slight foot deformity.
She ordered me some personally-designed inserts and we scheduled a weekly regiment to re-align my spine. This was my first visit to a chiropractor and I didn't know what to expect. But Dr. gave me tons of information on the process before, during, and after that even made me feel relaxed and comfortable even with the back-twisting cracks. I returned recently for a check-up and went through some further scrutiny.
In addition to more spinal alignment, the Dr. and I worked on holistic therapies including a fascinating allergy test, electrotherapy and Reiki massage. She helped me understand the root of my ailments and relieve built-up stress. What I appreciate most about Dr. Alterman is her direct, honest, no-sugar coating approach to healing. She gave me very specific and straight-forward instructions and feedback on what is happening to my body and what I need to do to improve it.
Since I have started following them, I've noticed a significant progress in my well-being and many pains and glitches have subsided. Not only did she alleviate my physical burdens but she took the time to heal me holistically, asking me questions on my lifestyle, past traumas, and the various stresses in my life; things many physicians don't even bother with but that have a tremendous impact on your health.

My family and I have had a great experience with Dr Alterman and we highly recommend her. I've been treated by her for about 3 months (2 or 3 times a week). I have been so pleased with her care that I have also had her treating both my children with miraculous results (I have a 4 year old girl and 10 year old boy). There are some special needs involved that she handles with compassion.
We lovingly refer to our kids as "movers". They can test anyone's patients and Dr. Alterman has never been anything but warm and patient with them, even when she redirects them if they are in her way. My kids are always excited when they get to go see her. She keeps a child's table and chairs with toys right outside the exam room, but my kids come in and out while I'm being treated.
The office isn't very large so they will also occasionally walk up to the front desk and visit with the lovely office assistant, Tanya. I can hear them from the exam room. During my initial visit, she performed a thorough evaluation that among other things, measured mobility and symmetry. I found her to be a responsible doctor and very much appreciated that she didn't adjust me until she reviewed my x-Rays.
Her web site says the first phase is to reduce symptoms which can take multiple visit. After committing to her treatment plan, I am really happy to say that my back hasn't "gone out" in months, even after a trip to the beach (it always used to go out and spasm after walking on the unstable sand). Dr. Alterman does not take insurance (like many of the better doctors in this area), but she does give you a form you can submit yourself. Dr Alterman is a wonderful doctor who has earned my respect.
During several of my initial visits, my back muscles rebelled. She always happily kept me there and continued to work on me until I was in better than good condition to leave. She never made me feel bad about the extra time and her other patients were always understanding since she would do the same for them.

I recently moved and the number one thing I miss about Maryland is Dr. Alterman. I have had shoulder pain and issues with my neck for years, not to mention scoliosis and a slew of other annoying, painful issues. And I've gone to many chiropractors over the years, in multiple states. The ONLY one that's been able to help me and take care of the actual cause of my pain has been Dr. Alterman.
Unlike the other chiropractors I've been to, Dr. Alterman doesn't just offer a band-aid solution. She works with you to get to the root of the issue and therefore eliminate it. It's not an easy fix - do not expect to just go one time and *poof* have everything all better instantly like magic. If you want someone to lie to you and tell you they can fix you in one visit, go waste your money elsewhere (and I do mean "waste").
But if you are actually committed to getting better, go straight to ChiroAid! As an added bonus, she also does Reiki and CranioSacral Therapy. I've tried both and they are AWESOME! I have a lot of stress in my life and having Dr. Alterman practice Reiki with me has really calmed me down a lot, made me more balanced, and actually increased my happiness levels. Nothing beats that!

I had three different pain points on my back. I had them for years and neglected to have anything done. Then, quite by chance, I had a pinched nerve at the base of my skull. My GP suggested chiro. Off I went and picked Chiroaid simply because it was nearby. To make the story short, my pains are genuinely gone. My back spasm on the left side, a regular occurrence heretofore, is no more.
My pinched nerve is fine and as a bonus, I can now literally turn my head to the far left again, something I could not do for years. There's more. My wife has been suffering from sciatica for years and my daughter had a mild case of painful scoliosis. I insisted they both go see Dr. Alterman and both are thrilled. They were particularly impressed, as was I, by the detailed analysis, including compulsory x-rays, before she even lays a finger on you.
My wife is just frustrated that the insurance limit is almost reached (me too) so she'll have to fork out pocket money if she wants to continue (apparently she does). If you're not anti-chiropractor like a previous reviewer, you will not regret your appointments with Dr. Alterman.

I have been to other chiropractors and no one compares to Dr Alterman. Her level of expertise is superior to any other chiropractor I have ever been to. She is patient, kind and she is very knowledgable. She has helped tremendously through adjustments and Reiki. I have seen various chiropractors over the years, all of them good, and Dr. Alterman surpasses them all by far. Thanks to Dr. Alterman, I now know that the reason for the lower back pain that has been part of my entire adult life is that I have scoliosis. No other doctor had noticed a strangeness in my spine, or asked to see an x-ray. I started a routine treatment program with Dr. Alterman two weeks ago and after the first week I could see a difference in the way I stand; I can now sit with both feet comfortably on the ground - my right leg is no longer "shorter" than the left, and the pain lessens with every treatment so it no longer wakes me in mid-sleep. Dr. Alterman uses a combination of chiropractic and alternative healing treatments that treat the whole body and the results are clear. I highly recommend her.

I will never pay for chiropractic services ever again. Never mind the fact I seriously thought for a couple days my neck got damaged by one of her "adjustments" it just smacks of high priced quackery. You lay down and you get your body basically cracked in a couple places, she uses some weird machines that just beat on you. Then you get electrical stimulation followed by a rudimentary massage machine which feels neither comfortable nor therapeutic. My back kept going out also

I believe I have found my favorite Chiropractor. Dr Alterman has provided me with good and thorough care. I went to see her for cranial sacral bodywork therapy. For the first session I had a complete review that lasted an hour and a half. Each subsequent session last an hour, 1/2 of which is with the doctor. It is so rare to have so much time aloted to us nowadays from doctors!
